Here it is, the first year of the Plymouth GTX. The
start of a great model, the "white collar" businessman's muscle car.
The GTX was derived from the Belvedere model, in fact in 1967 it was
an option for that model.. The base engine was the Commando 440, but
for a select few, the monster Hemi 426 was available. This is one of
those cars. In 1967, there were only 108 Hemi hardtops made, period.
In fact, out of those 108 Hardtops, only 63 automatics were to be
found. What a rare car, what a wonderful driver, what a torque
monster. What is even more amazing, I am only the second owner of
this car.
About the car, it is a Black car with red interior, special ordered
in Canada with the Hemi, no console(column shift) with police
handling package. With the car comes the build sheet, the original
owners manual, the 1967 "Authorized Dealer's Customer Care Warranty"
with the name and location of the Plymouth Dealership and the sales
date. I will also provide copies of registrations for all owners and
a mint condition "Chrysler Crew" (marine products) brochure for 1967
that came with the car. The car was bought by a gentleman in Alberta
and he kept it garaged during the winters until his passing in 2003.
I bought it off the estate via a middleman in Montreal in early
2005.
The interior was replaced by legendary but everything else seems to
be original and works great. The AM radio still pulls in the tunes
and the clock is still working. The engine was just tuned up and the
carbs were rebuilt. What I do know is wrong with the vehicle: gas
gauge is not accurate, dash pad is cracked, crack in glove box door
and several emblems were replaced with non-standard screws by the
original owner. To the best of my knowledge, this car has not been
restored nor the engine removed from the engine bay. I did do some
work to stop some fluid leaks, but there is nothing that can't be
changed for the shows.
I love this car and I do not want to sell it, who would want to sell
one of only 63 cars made that year. My wife is pregnant and we need
to do some work on the house to get it ready for the little girl, I
sold off most of my collection hoping that would be enough, but as
anybody who has done remodeling knows, extra expenses keep popping
up and they require more money than I have collected, thus I need to
sell the pride and joy.
